Reception Party

Added to MyNight

Sir Paul Reeves Building, AUT University

Reception Party is a durational and endurance performance where Mark Harvey welcomes visitors at the entrance of the New Zealand pavilion and invites them to argue with him about climate change, related politics and their effects on the oceans and sea level rise. When people tire of the debate they are invited to push him over.

He also responds to the notion of pōwhiri and the welcome party in kaupapa Maori contexts (in Maori protocol, where guests are welcomed onto marae, or tribal meeting places). In relation to this he is interested in the effects climate change potentially has on tangata whenua (people of the land) in Aotearoa and the pacific islands.

A free argument.

Let it all out.
